The torch, inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu, was presented to Wike’s representative, Chief of Staff Chidi Amadi, on Wednesday.

Wike emphasized the FCT Administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports development, advising athletes to train diligently for excellence and numerous medals. The 22nd edition of the festival will take place in Ogun State from May 16th to May 30th, 2025.

We will be here waiting to receive the laurels, as many as you can come back with, he said.

Minister Nyesom Wike further encouraged coaches to effectively share their knowledge and skills with athletes, assuring them that exceptional performances would be recognized.

While emphasizing the festival’s role in promoting national unity, he commended all stakeholders for their efforts in ensuring the festival’s success.

Wike specifically praised Mr. Abdullahi Ango, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Youth Development Secretariat, along with the members of the National Sports Commission, for their diligent work in facilitating a smooth sports festival.

Luka Istifanus, the Director of Sports at FCTA, assured the minister that preparations are underway to guarantee the success of FCT athletes at the festival. He also urged athletes to strive for victory and bring pride to the FCT.

The Torch of Unity, a traditional symbol of the festival representing unity, strength, and sportsmanship, will continue its journey from the FCT to all 36 states of the federation.
