Bring Back Fubara — women protest against emergency rule in Rivers

On Friday, women in Rivers State staged a protest opposing the proposed declaration of a state of emergency in the region.

Led by Nancy Chidi Nwankwo, the demonstrators denounced the move as politically driven and intended to weaken democratic processes.

They argued that the circumstances in the state did not warrant such drastic action, as there was no real threat to national security.

The women are calling for the immediate reinstatement of all democratic institutions in Rivers State, including the return of the elected governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

They strongly criticized what they saw as an unconstitutional attempt to impose military rule under the guise of a state of emergency, labeling it as both unjustified and unacceptable.

The group also urged respected figures across the country—such as former presidents and diplomats—to step in and persuade President Bola Tinubu to reverse what they described as a serious injustice.

Reaffirming their dedication to nonviolent protest, the women pledged to persist in their struggle for freedom, justice, and the right to self-determination.
