Tinubu, Obi mourns ex-MTN Nigeria chairman, Pascal Dozie

President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to elder statesman, banker, and entrepreneur Pascal Dozie, who passed away at the age of 85.

In a statement issued by the State House on Tuesday, Tinubu expressed profound sadness over the loss, describing Dozie as “an exceptional business leader whose wisdom, humility, and groundbreaking contributions created a lasting legacy that continues to inspire and support others.”

Pascal Dozie (OON) was renowned as the founder of Diamond Bank and the inaugural chairman of MTN Nigeria. His pivotal contributions to the evolution of Nigeria’s banking and telecommunications industries firmly established him as a driving force in the nation’s progress.
“His contributions to Nigeria’s economic architecture left an enduring legacy,” President Tinubu noted, adding that Dozie’s leadership transcended the corporate sphere, reaching into national service. The late entrepreneur held several key positions, including Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria, President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, and Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group.

President Tinubu prayed for the peaceful repose of Pascal Dozie’s soul and conveyed heartfelt condolences to his grieving family. He also called on the Nigerian private sector to honor Dozie’s legacy by embracing the principles of integrity, innovation, and commitment to national development.

Similarly, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi paid tribute to Dozie, describing him as a man he “held in high esteem.”
“I met him during the formation of Diamond Bank and later MTN Nigeria, and throughout our collaboration, I came to know him as a true gentleman and a teacher who always sought the good of all,” Obi wrote on X.

Reflecting on Dozie’s lasting impact, Obi further remarked,
“His legacy as a banker and entrepreneur stands as a testament to his vision, leadership, and commitment to excellence. He inspired countless individuals and businesses.”
