Mom, daughter get 6 months for stealing

Two family members Falilatu Amidu and Ayisatu Amidu received six months in prison following a verdict by the Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court located in Isabo for their theft (stealing) of N1million worth of dry ponmo (cow skin) stock fish and dried meat.

Two female defendants currently living at No 21 Ago-oko area in Abeokuta Ogun were found guilty of conspiracy and stealing.

During the trial the court reached a conclusion that all of the provided evidence from the prosecution established beyond any doubt the guilt of the accused convicts regarding the crime.

The court leader Odumosu delivered six months imprisonment and an N5,000 fine option to both mother and daughter.
The court-required victims of the theft to pay N100,000 back to the complainant before the defendants received their N5,000 fine option.

During her statement at the court Insp Kehinde Fawunmi mentioned that the defendants conducted their illegal act during August 2024 at Lafenwa market.

Fawunmi revealed that Falitatu worked together with her daughter Ayisatu to stealing a N1million sack with stock fish along with dry ponmo and dry cow meat belonging to Mrs Kafayat Alao.

Falilatu helped the complainant with her delivery tasks between the store in Lafenwa and her items sales area.

The defendant waited for more than an hour before her disappearance led the complainant to inspect the store personally.

The complainant searched for Falilatu at the store but did not find her while noticing the disappearance of a large bag that held dried meat along with stock fish and ponmo. The defendant became hard to locate at this time.

Fawunmi testified Falilatu made a theft that she then transferred to her daughter Ayisatu for sale.
Ayisatu received the stolen goods from her mother while being fully aware that these items came from theft.

The prosecutor demonstrated how the carried offense violated sections 516 as well as 390(9) and 127 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.
