President Tinubu Unveils 125km Benin-Asaba Highway

President Tinubu has officially launched the 125km Benin-Asaba Highway reconstruction project. The unveiling, which took place on Sunday, marks a milestone in connectivity, economic growth, and regional integration.
Furthermore, President Tinubu, represented by Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, highlighted the project as a legacy initiative. The highway will be completed within 30 months and will improve trade and transportation efficiency between Edo and Delta States. It connects the South-East, South-South, and South-West regions of Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Governor Okpebholo praised the President’s commitment to Edo State, comparing its development to Lagos. He noted that Edo is evolving into an infrastructural hub, reflecting the President’s dedication to nationwide progress.
“The President loves Edo State so much that whenever he sees me, he asks about the Edo people and the Oba of Benin,” Okpebholo said. “With good roads, the economy thrives, and we enjoy the dividends of democracy under this administration.”
In addition, the Benin-Asaba Highway runs from AIF Roundabout in Benin to Summit Junction in Asaba, linking Edo and Delta States. This route supports commercial activities and ensures a smooth movement of goods and services.

Additionally, Minister of Works Dave Umahi praised Governor Okpebholo’s leadership, calling Edo a “construction site” within 150 days of his tenure. He also commended the President’s infrastructure vision, emphasizing the Ministry’s priority projects that boost economic resilience.
Likewise, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, assured that sufficient financial resources are in place. This ensures smooth execution from start to finish.
As a result, the dual-carriageway highway, with solar lighting, will enhance safety, reduce travel time, and improve logistics. As a key trade route, it will foster regional integration, boost local economies, and create jobs during construction and maintenance.
Consequently, Edo and Delta States stand at the brink of a new era of growth, cementing their roles as vital economic hubs. This project is more than a road; it is a pathway to prosperity for millions of Nigerians.
With construction underway, stakeholders remain confident in its timely completion, signaling a new phase in Nigeria’s infrastructure revolution.
