FG unveils EV Charging Station in Abuja

Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, DG and CEO of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), has commissioned Abuja’s first Hybrid Electric Vehicle (EV)Charging Station.
The Thursday grand commissioning event welcomed the Minister of Innovation Science and Technology Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji alongside government officials of high rank.
The project includes a sustainable electric vehicle (EV)-charging station, according to Abdullahi.

He said, “It’s a 5.5kW solar-powered facility that can switch between the public grid and solar PV. It features a 10kW lithium battery and an 8kVA intelligent inverter for fast charging.”
The project follows the presidential declaration on climate change and the Nigerian clean energy policy which supports solar energy initiatives to achieve net-zero GHG emissions while building a low-carbon economy while reducing transport sector dependence on fossil fuels.
The Energy Commission of Nigeria’s Director General stated that the design enables rapid charging since a standard electric vehicle obtains full charge in thirty minutes. This facility has the capability to simultaneously charge four cars which consist of both standard model vehicles and generic vehicle types.
