2027 Election: I’ll never join Atiku, Peter Obi’s coalition – Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, convener of the Take-It-Back Movement, has firmly stated that he will not be part of any proposed coalition between former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

Sowore also ruled out the possibility of joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an appearance on Arise TV’s Politics Today, Sowore made his stance clear when asked whether he would consider aligning with Atiku and Obi in a political coalition.

He emphasized that the only coalition he would ever consider joining represents the oppressed.

He said:

I’m not joining any coalition; the coalition that they joined in 2013 and 2015 is what brought about the APC, so joining another coalition in 2025 is doing the same thing all over again without thinking of achieving the same set of results.

The coalition that needs to be built is that of the oppressed, joining another coalition that is made up of the same people who were the ones that created the coalition that ruined Nigeria, it’s an injustice and an injury to the people of Nigeria.

So you can never see me in their coalition, and I will never be part of it. I’m not joining the SDP, I’m not part of those playing chess with the destiny of Nigerians.

Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai have reportedly formed a coalition with the goal of unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Atiku revealed this during a press briefing organized by the Concerned Leaders and Political Stakeholders in Nigeria.

He cautioned the current administration against prioritizing personal political ambitions and the desire to cling to power at all costs, warning that such actions could plunge the nation into avoidable turmoil. According to Atiku, undermining the principles of federalism, democracy, and constitutional governance poses a serious threat—not only to Rivers State—but to the future of Nigeria’s democratic system as a whole.
