SON is boosting efforts to standardize Made-in-Aba products

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) works to standardize both Made-in-Aba and other locally produced items through intensified efforts which improve their regional and worldwide market reception.

The South East director for Standards Organisation of Nigeria Aharanwa Chuks discussed these matters during an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday at Abuja.

Through its Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) SON ensures all locally produced products uphold the proper Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS).

He explained that MANCAP requires direct contact between SON and manufacturers for product quality benchmark verification.

SON conducts NIS requirements testing by inspecting production sites while selecting product specimens for laboratory testing.

A product meets all quality benchmarks through successful compliance then gets issued a MANCAP certification. The compliance outcome demonstrates proper quality standard fulfillment.

The standards education program conducted by SON in Aba successfully targets the factory owners regarding standardization principles.

SON performed stakeholder interaction sessions by bringing together manufacturers from different sectors to teach them proper standards for local and international product manufacturing.

Standardisation training received by leather manufacturers in Aba now provides them with enhanced product competitiveness worldwide.

SON encourages manufacturers to work together with the agency to receive MANCAP authorization which will make their products sellable in Nigeria alongside being competitive on worldwide markets.

According to Chuks this initiative seeks to enhance international confidence in Aba-made products as well as global market acceptance of local manufacturing products.
