Paris Saint-Germain secured the Ligue 1 title on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Angers at home, as they gear up for their Champions League quarter-final clash with Aston Villa.

PSG 13TH RECORD WINNING TITLE

Needing only a draw to seal the championship, PSG entered the match with a commanding 21-point lead over second-placed Monaco and seven games remaining in the season.

Desire Doue’s goal early in the second half proved decisive, handing Luis Enrique’s side the win and clinching the title with six matches still to go.

This marks PSG’s fourth consecutive Ligue 1 crown and their 11th in the past 13 seasons, underscoring their domestic dominance since the Qatar Sports Investments takeover in 2011.

PSG CAPTAIN’s WORDS ON THE ACCOMPLISHMENT

“Our goal is to win it all,” said captain Marquinhos, who has now claimed 10 league titles since joining the club in 2013, during an interview with beIN Sports.

“It feels great. This is the result of all the hard work we’ve put in over the season, our consistency, and the team truly deserves it,” added the Brazilian centre-back, who will miss the first leg against Villa due to suspension.

HOW SUCCESSFUL HAS PSG BECOME IN FRANCE?

PSG’s total of 13 French league titles puts them three ahead of Saint-Etienne, the next most successful club with 10, although they haven’t lifted the trophy since 1981.

Marseille follows with nine titles, while both Nantes and Monaco have each claimed the championship eight times.

The frequency with which PSG now win the Ligue 1 title has made it almost routine, which perhaps explains the relatively subdued celebrations on a picturesque spring day in the capital.

Nonetheless, head coach Luis Enrique was hoisted into the air by his staff, and the players completed a lap of honour around the Parc des Princes to mark the occasion.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR PSG AFTER CLINCHING THE TITLE?

The trophy presentation has been scheduled for a later date, as PSG remains fully focused on its upcoming European showdown with Aston Villa. The English side will visit the Parc des Princes for the first leg of the quarter-final on Wednesday, with the return leg set for April 15 in England.
