President Donald Trump plays down third-term talk

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has clarified that he is not seeking a third term in office, which is barred by the Constitution, despite previously hinting at the idea during public appearances.

In an interview broadcast on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, May 4, Trump told moderator Kristen Welker, “This is not something I’m looking to do” when asked about a potential third term. He added, “I’m looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican, to carry it forward.”

Trump’s remarks come in response to speculation sparked by his comments at recent rallies, where he appeared to entertain the idea of serving beyond the two-term constitutional limit. These remarks have prompted criticism and concern from his opponents.

The interview was taped during Trump’s visit to the University of Alabama, where he addressed graduating students at Coleman Coliseum ahead of the school’s commencement ceremonies.
