Portable remanded in prison after failing to meet bail conditions

Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable and known for his controversial persona, has been remanded in prison custody after failing to meet bail conditions.

An Upper Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, had earlier granted him bail in the sum of ₦1 million following his arraignment on multiple charges, including criminal defamation, intimidation, inciting public disturbance, and cyberstalking, all relating to a petition filed by renowned Fuji musician Saheed Osupa.

As part of the bail terms, the court on Monday stipulated that Portable must provide two sureties of the same value—one of whom must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, and the other a property owner within a Government Reserved Area, with a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
Due to his inability to fulfill these conditions, Portable has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin.

It is worth noting that on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed Portable’s arrest in connection with Saheed Osupa’s petition, which accused him of behavior likely to breach public peace, including the use of abusive and insulting language.
The statement read,
The petition borders on serious allegations which include criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the Command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin.
According to the police, officers from the Kwara State Command traveled to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, April 13, where they arrested Portable at approximately 7:25 p.m. He was promptly taken to Ilorin for further investigation.
