The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has distanced itself from a recently formed coalition of opposition politicians.
Led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, the Forum stated that it has no intention of joining any alliance ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In a move that further deepens internal disputes within the party, the Forum also endorsed Deputy National Secretary Setonji Koshoedo as the Acting National Secretary, amid ongoing controversy over who holds the legitimate position.

This development follows an earlier announcement by former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar regarding the formation of an opposition coalition. The alliance is believed to include former Labour Party presidential flagbearer Peter Obi, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and other prominent political figures.
Atiku declared that the coalition’s primary objective is to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.

The coalition’s formation came on the heels of El-Rufai’s defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing a lack of internal democracy within the APC since Tinubu assumed office.
Meanwhile, Adewale Adebayo, the SDP’s former presidential candidate, revealed that talks are ongoing with Atiku, Obi, and other politicians about joining the party. He expressed confidence that, should they align with the SDP’s values, they could defeat and politically retire Tinubu and the APC.
In a related development, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) chieftain Buba Galadima claimed El-Rufai is acting as Atiku’s placeholder in the SDP, in case the PDP denies him its 2027 presidential ticket. Galadima made this disclosure during a meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday.
