Military will protect national assets – DHQ

The military high command has declared its continued commitment to stop any person or group from destroying essential national assets of Nigeria.

At a press conference in Abuja the Defence Media Operations director Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye delivered this important statement relating to military operations throughout Nigeria.The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye made this statement after multiple pipeline explosions occured in Rivers state.

Kangye emphasized that the military remains at the forefront of defending national oil infrastructure across the Niger Delta while noting that their commanding officers intensely pursue their predefined targets.

All field activities go directly to the attention of the field commanders. The field commanders will examine every situation and establish their findings accordingly.

The process of forming conclusions remains ongoing for the investigating team and I need to avoid conjecturing their results at this time.Without hesitation the military force ensures the protection of key national infrastructures from criminal damage.

The military ensures critical infrastructure protection which constitutes their main purpose of being deployed through operations in the area.

Kangye announced that Operation Delta Safe military forces stopped a N461.7 oil theft value across the South South region during the previous seven days.Kangye reported that military forces recovered 247,629 litres of stolen crude oil and 198,374 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) throughout the week.

Military forces discovered 36 cooking ovens for crude oil and destroyed 42 pits, 28 boats, 33 storage tanks and 65 barrels and 21 illegal oil refining locations as reported by Lieutenant Colonel Oguzie.

The anti-illegal oil sustainable development effort revealed additional recovered property which included pumps, tricycles and motorcycles besides mobile phones and different types of vehicles.

The security forces made 17 arrests of oil thieves while seizing various weapons along with ammunition and one extra magazine during their operations according to him.
