Meta to tap EU user data for AI training starting May 27

The data consolidation of European users’ public posts and comments by Meta into generative artificial intelligence programs begins on May 27 but gives users the right to decline this practice.
The parent company of Facebook and Instagram and Threads known as Meta stated this week that it plans to use European customers’ public posts together with their Meta AI chatbot conversations to develop its AI models.
Meta AI will be able to process everything posted on Instagram or Facebook starting on May 27 but the service will not extract data from WhatsApp private messages.
A privacy notice specifies that the content sharing through Meta AI will commence on May 27 yet users can decide to exclude their information post this date.

The Meta platform will send an early notice to all users before May 27 which will both describe the policy update and lead to an explanation of the opt-out process.
According to Meta the company can still handle user information in two cases: when a user appears in a publicly accessible image or when someone makes a mention of the user.
Both the changes and the opt-out forms would remain inactive for accounts operated by users under eighteen years old as well as private messages among family members and friends according to Meta policy.
Metas AI development represents a top corporate initiative for the company along with other leading tech companies who seek to replicate ChatGPTs success.
In this year the entity will fund $60 to $65 billion in investments mostly dedicated to developing network infrastructure for AI model development requiring servers and data centers.
