Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has criticized Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana for his poor performance against Lyon in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.
The Manchester United shot-stopper struggled during his team’s 2-2 draw with the French side in the first leg of their quarter-final clash.

Notably, Onana was also involved in a heated exchange with former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic prior to the match.
Cameroon international Andre Onana stirred controversy ahead of the match by telling the press that Manchester United were “a way better team” than their opponents.

His comment didn’t sit well with Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic, who fired back by labeling Onana “one of the worst keepers” in United’s history.
Onana clapped back on social media, pointing out that he had at least won trophies with the Red Devils—something he used to undermine the former Premier League star.

However, Onana’s performance on the night backfired, as he made costly errors leading to both of Lyon’s goals in the 2-2 draw, drawing heavy criticism.
Reacting to the match on ESPN, Liverpool legend Steve Nicol commented,
In football, you always keep your mouth shut because you never know what can happen.
Had things been going great for him, then you can get away with talking trash. But when you’re not at your best, keep your trap shut.
It just makes it twice as bad now. Nemanja Matic is the only person sniggering right now, while Onana is going back to the hotel wishing he had kept his mouth shut.
