Hoodlums ambush Amotekun in Osun, one operative killed, one missing

Mr. Lamidi Abiodun from Osun Amotekun Corps met his death during a hooded attack at the Papa boundary sector in Iwo Osun State while another employee of the security group disappeared after the incident.

The security organization received a warning from farmers in Papa Farm which triggered their response to reported farm attacks around Iwo.

According to Amotekun Corps Public Relations Officer (PRO) Yusuf Idowu Abass’s Thursday update the security force and Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) members joined together after a distress call to attempt apprehending the criminals.

The statement asserts that the team encountered resistance from a group of armed men under the leadership of Akeem Olofa who serves as a notorious criminal affecting that area. Abiodun received an attack from his assailants when the confrontation took place.

At the scene he received the determining blow which came from a machete blow to his head that resulted in an immediate death.

The statement shows that apart from VGN member Nurudeen Alowonle who disappeared during the attack, one Alex Sola received a leg wound. The Amotekun Corps along with every element of the security community in Osun State mourns deeply after the passing of Mr. Abiodun.

The incident was transferred to Iwo Nigeria Police and the heroic deceased body was sent to a local mortuary for necessary procedures.

The statement added that investigation was already ongoing, just as efforts were being intensified to arrest the fleeing hoodlums with a view to facing justice.“

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Lamidi Abiodun and stand united in honor of his bravery and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.”
