Governor Zulum bans sale of fuel in Bama LGA

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has imposed an immediate ban on petrol sales across Bama Local Government Area, including Bama town and the border community of Banki, as part of efforts to reinforce counter-insurgency operations in the region.

The decision, made after consultations with security agencies, forms part of the state government’s wider strategy to combat insurgent activities in the northeastern region bordering Chad and Cameroon.

I have directed the immediate ban on the sale of petrol in Bama town, Banki, and other parts of Bama Local Government Area with immediate effect, Zulum stated.

The Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, made the announcement in a statement released on Saturday. The statement underscored that the ban was a necessary security measure to bolster ongoing military operations in the area.

Governor Zulum issued a firm warning against any breach of the directive, stating, “Let me make it clear—there will be no sacred cows in the enforcement of this ban. Security agencies have been given strict orders to clamp down on any filling station or individual contravening this directive. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with accordingly.”

Reiterating his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and stability, the governor urged residents to support the government’s initiatives and cooperate fully with security forces.

Governor Zulum has remained steadfast in his tough approach toward insurgent groups, frequently implementing direct interventions to aid military efforts and humanitarian relief in the state’s most affected communities.
