Gen Tsiga finally regains freedom after 56 days in terrorists’ den

Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd), former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has regained his freedom after spending 56 days in captivity.

Tsiga was kidnapped on February 5, 2025, from his hometown in the Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, along with nine other residents.

Although his family paid a ransom, his captors kept him in detention for several more weeks before eventually releasing him.

Reports indicate discrepancies in the ransom amount, with some sources claiming N60 million was paid.

However, Daily Trust reported that reliable sources suggest the actual sum was three times higher.

A family member revealed that after the payment, the kidnappers remained silent for a week before allowing Tsiga to communicate with his family.

Although the abductors later demanded additional funds, no further payment was made.

Tsiga was eventually released and is said to be in good health. Sources suggest he is being transported from Zamfara State to Abuja.

A senior military official confirmed his release, while his family members have expressed relief over his safe return.
