Five killed, including two soldiers, in Benue herdsmen ambush

The suspected armed herdsmen conducted a deadly ambush at Anyiase which killed two soldiers and three members of the civilian population near Jato Aka in Kwande LGA of Benue State. Soldiers conducting a patrol mission became entrapped in heavy gunfire following the bandit attack on the community during Wednesday.

The deadly attacks led local sources to verify the death of several assailants although a large number of residents found it necessary to leave their homes. According to Chief Iorbee Ihagh leader of Mzough U Tiv he denounced these attacks to defend his people through traditional methods for protection.

Security adviser to Governor Hyacinth Alia named Joseph Har confirmed the incident yet remained unavailable to contact the military commander for specific details. Operation Whirl Stroke along with the police force has not provided any statement to the public.

The Chairman of Kwande LGA Mr. Vitalis Neji failed to respond to communications sent through his phone either by call or text.

The Chief Press Secretary to Benue State Governor Tersoo Kula delivered a statement Thursday which announced the results of the Executive Council meeting where Governor Hyacinth Alia presided over discussions about the “tragic murder of two soldiers from the Nigerian Army by armed herders while at work to protect civilians in Turan, Kwande LGA.”
