MANILA, Philippines — Filipino filmmaker Child Ruth Villarama mentioned she hoped her documentary on the West Philippine Sea (WPS) could be “a bridge to unite the nation regardless of political colours.”

Directed by Villarama, “Meals Supply: Contemporary from the West Philippine Sea” is an 82-minute documentary following the federal government’s rotation and resupply missions; and native fisherfolks’ day by day life.

“If ‘Meals Supply’ is usually a bridge to unite the Filipinos regardless of their political colours, then I feel we’ve achieved one thing right here,” Villarama mentioned in an opportunity interview with INQUIRER.internet after a screening in Quezon Metropolis on Saturday.

“We’re all doing this for our personal sovereignty and for our personal freedom. So, we’re reaching out to no matter camps we belong to,” she added.

‘Defiance’

The documentary adopted a gaggle of fisherfolk from Zambales as they got down to the West Philippine Sea.

“For them to do this act of defiance and for us to have the ability to seize that, it’s their selection. Kumbaga, sabi nga nila, ‘Kung ano yung hindi nagawa ni Pangulong (Rodrigo) Duterte, sila na ang gagawa,’” she added.

Duterte famously promised to take the Philippine flag to the West Philippine Sea on a jetski to claim Philippine sovereignty over the realm, however he later backtracked on the comment.

Villarama appealed to lawmakers, “We’re hoping that our congressman and our representatives from every district can tackle the decision and manage their very own screenings there.” /cb
