Uromi massacre: I’ll pay full compensation to victims families

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has promised the families of the 16 hunters who were killed in Uromi that he will provide full compensation for their tragic loss.

Accompanied by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other prominent officials, Governor Okpebholo visited Torankawa in the Bunkure Local Government Area to express his condolences. During this visit, he also committed to offering support to the grieving families through cash and food donations.

Expressing his outrage over the brutal killings of these innocent victims, Okpebholo vowed in the village that such heinous acts would not go unpunished.

We will ensure that justice is served on those responsible for this heinous act,” he stated.

In the meantime, hundreds of family members and supporters gathered for a peaceful protest, holding placards with messages like “We demand justice for the killings of our people,” “Hunters are not criminals,” and “We seek swift justice in this matter.”

The protesters filled the road leading to Torankawa village, passionately voicing their demands. Numerous hunters, equipped with their hunting gear, participated in the peaceful demonstration.

In a similar vein, additional placards displayed messages like “Killings in the North must stop,” “Northerners are peace-loving citizens,” and “Justice must prevail.”

Amidst the protest, some hunters, clearly agitated, chanted war songs and waved their weapons as the governor’s convoy went by, while residents worked to maintain order in the situation.
