Manchester United holds the right to receive a £5 million payment from Chelsea upon the purchase decision for Jadon Sancho during this summer transfer window. Chelsea must pay Manchester United £5 million following their Premier League finish at position 14th or better.

Ever since his strong early starts at Chelsea Sancho has gone without scoring in his previous 19 appearances and his last assist came during January. The winger scores his second goal in his 28 games playing for the London club.

Sancho’s Chelsea stay appears likely to finish following this season because the club possesses both another winger acquisition for summer 2024 and a promising Sporting prospect named Geovany Quenda who will arrive in 2026.

Sancho made a positive step by entering as a substitute in the Community Shield match but subsequent transfer details led his relationship with the club toward a repair. United continues to pay a large share of Sancho’s wages while he stands among the group of high-earning players identified by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe who cannot play for manager Ruben Amorim.

Ratcliffe confirmed that United continues to pay costs related to Sancho’s Dortmund transfer until summer 2023 when a full transaction will take place to buy his services permanently. The Chelsea player Sancho receives half of his wages from both United and Chelsea as United compensates the London-based club through a £17 million payment during the summer transfer season according to Ratcliffe. The current United front-office contract for Sancho operates from 2026 while providing the opportunity for a one-year extension.
