Singer Chris Brown granted £5m bail over alleged assault

American R&B artist Chris Brown was granted bail on Wednesday in connection with an assault case, on the condition that he provide a £5 million surety to a UK court.
According to the presiding judge, the 36-year-old Grammy Award winner is permitted to continue his planned international tour, which is scheduled to begin on June 8 in Amsterdam. However, the judge warned that if Brown fails to return to the UK, where he is slated to perform a series of concerts beginning June 15, the £5 million guarantee will be forfeited.

Brown did not attend the bail hearing. His tour also includes stops across Europe, including France, and extends into the United States in 2025.

He was formally charged last week with “grievous bodily harm with intent” following an incident in which the alleged victim was reportedly struck multiple times with a bottle, then chased, punched, and kicked.
The incident allegedly occurred at a nightclub in London’s Hanover Square on February 19, 2023, during Brown’s UK tour. He was later apprehended by police in the early hours of May 13 at a luxury hotel in Manchester, after reportedly arriving by private jet.

Judge Tony Baumgartner, presiding at Southwark Crown Court in London, granted Brown bail but imposed strict conditions: he must surrender his passport when not traveling, reside at an address known to the court, avoid the nightclub where the alleged assault occurred, and have no contact with the alleged victim, Abraham Diah.
Brown and his co-defendant, U.S. citizen Omololu Akinlolu, who faces the same charge, are scheduled to reappear in court on June 20.
