Both the executive and legislative arms of the two states have been called to explain why the House of Representatives should not assume its constitutional duties, citing prevailing security challenges in the states.
The summons follows a petition submitted by a civil rights group, Guardians of Democracy and Rule of Law, urging the federal legislature to take over the responsibilities of the Benue and Zamfara state assemblies.

Committee Chairman Mike Etaba, who personally signed the summons, emphasized that the concerned parties are already familiar with the details of the case.
“Our role is to ensure that the rule of law is upheld at all times,” Etaba stated. “This is an opportunity for the parties involved to present their side of the story clearly, so Nigerians are informed. There is no room for anarchy in our democracy.”
