Peripheral prices are rising too. Core controller now $65. Global markets including Europe, the United Kingdom and Australia are subject to price increase for Microsoft Xbox Series X and S platforms.

Microsoft attributes the price changes to both market developments and expenses tied to game development. Player value commitments together with broad access options continue to be maintained by Microsoft.

Console prices usually fall mid-generation. PS2 achieved massive market growth that coincided with its price reduction from $299 to $199 in 2002.

Following the Slim redesign together with the $299 price reduction in 2009 PS3 experienced a strong recovery. Sony reached high console sales through its previous price management approach.

Microsoft’s price hikes, nearly five years after launch, run counter to precedent. The momentum behind Xbox Series will experience more deterioration in the near future.
