FG declares May 1 public holiday for workers day

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, May 1, as a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister emphasized the importance of peace as a foundation for industrialization and economic development.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo praised Nigerian workers for their dedication and sacrifices, acknowledging their significant contributions to the nation’s progress and the respect Nigeria enjoys globally.

“There is dignity in labour,” the Minister said. “Our commitment and dedication to work are crucial to building the nation.” He encouraged workers to embrace innovation and enhance productivity in their various fields.

He further urged them to elevate the standards of their professions to help improve governance and ensure that all Nigerians benefit from the country’s resources.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property for both citizens and foreigners, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm wishes for a joyful Workers’ Day celebration.

He also called on Nigerians to remain hopeful, assuring that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains dedicated to fulfilling the promises of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
