Achimugu begins hunger strike in EFCC custody

Socialite and business leader Aisha Achimugu announced an ongoing fast in Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detention after EFCC operatives detained her.
On Tuesday in Abuja Mr Chikaosolu Ojukwu SAN together with his team from Achimugu’s legal department stated their client experienced arrest at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja at 5 a.m.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission declared Aisha Achimugu wanted through the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) when it charged her with criminal conspiracy and money laundering offenses during March.
On Monday a Federal High Court in Abuja led by Justice I.E. Ekwo issued orders that required Achimugu to present himself to the EFCC first and later the court on Wednesday.
Ojukwu stated that their client had come voluntarily from London to attend the EFCC invitation prior to her capture by commission operatives.
Through a written statement to Abuja Federal High Court on Monday the socialite declared her plans to go to the EFCC on Tuesday.
According to the plan he explained that his visit centralized on the existing investigation for criminal conspiracy and money laundering against her.
Our client appeared at the airport after her court obligation to comply with the EFCC invitation when authorities arrested her there.
Upon her arrival she began withholding food from her body. Our position regarding the arrest is that it stands in opposition to every legal provision because she functions as a conscience prisoner.
The search for information about Achimugu’s arrest from EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale failed because his phone did not answer multiple calls.
Ojukwu said that Achimugu was a well-known business magnate and the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Felak Concept Group, a consortium comprising several companies in engineering, maritime, oil and gas, and information technology. (NAN)
