BREAKING: Court Sentences Gospel Singer Osinachi’s Husband To Death By Hanging

Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of the late renowned gospel singer Osinachi, has been sentenced to death by hanging.
On Monday, Justice Nwosu-Iheme of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, sitting in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, delivered the verdict, finding Nwachukwu guilty of culpable homicide in connection with the death of his wife on April 8, 2022.

In her judgment, the judge ruled that the prosecution had met the burden of proof.

Nwachukwu had been brought before the court on June 3, 2022, facing 23 charges, including homicide, criminal intimidation, spousal cruelty, and child abuse. These charges were filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF).
Throughout the trial, the prosecution presented 17 witnesses, including Osinachi’s two children, who testified as PW4 and PW5, and submitted 25 pieces of documentary evidence.
Nwachukwu testified in his own defense, and his lawyers called four additional witnesses, presenting four exhibits.

Before the sentencing on Monday, Nwachukwu’s attorney, Reginald Nwali, requested mercy from the court. However, the prosecutor, Mrs. Aderonke Imala, urged the court to apply the full extent of the law and impose the appropriate penalties.
Justice Nwosu-Iheme then sentenced Nwachukwu to death by hanging on count 1. He also received two years of imprisonment for counts 2, 3, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 18. Additionally, he was sentenced to six months in prison for count 10, three years for count 11, and fined N500,000 and N200,000 for counts 6 and 7, respectively.
