Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has urged the South East not to miss out on the benefits of being part of the mainstream political landscape.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Kalu revealed that President Bola Tinubu was disappointed to have secured only 4% of the votes in Abia State during the 2023 presidential election.
He described the low support for Tinubu as concerning, especially given the presence of several prominent APC figures in the state during the polls.

Kalu called on APC members to remain united and work toward securing victory for the party in Abia come 2027.
He explained that the stakeholders’ meeting he hosted at his Abuja residence aimed to rally support for the APC and strengthen unity among its members, clarifying that Governor Alex Otti was not a topic of discussion.

Kalu also emphasized that he did not criticize Otti or his administration, reiterating his stance of not publicly commenting on his successors. He added that only the electorate has the power to determine the fate of leaders.
For example, in 2019, when I joined the APC, President Buhari made 68% in our constituency, but President Tinubu came back to make only 4% in the entire Abia in 2023; he was not happy with the political numbers of Abia.
He has a friend like me, and he has other people who are his friends, and we can only make 4%. Even I can’t believe it.
The South East as a whole has to belong where other Nigerians are sitting, Kalu said.
