In a statement from the Ministry of Finance, the BisonFly Project is described as a centralized, technology-driven platform designed to optimize and simplify the booking process for official air travel, while providing discounted rates.

At the launch event held on Thursday in Abuja, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, highlighted the project as a strategic effort by the Federal Ministry of Finance. He noted that BisonFly reflects the government’s commitment to reducing public spending by harnessing its collective purchasing power to negotiate more affordable airfares for civil servants.

MR. WALE EDUN STATEMENT

Edun said, “This initiative supports our commitment to responsible financial management.

By centralising travel bookings and securing discounted fares, we aim to reduce costs and enhance service delivery, similar to the practices adopted by international organisations such as the World Bank.

The BisonFly system will leverage digital booking tools and centralized platforms to enhance transparency and streamline official travel arrangements. The platform is expected to become fully operational in the coming months.

The Minister emphasized the importance of effective implementation, tasking the project team with delivering on key milestones and producing measurable outcomes for this critical government initiative.

Raymond Omenka Omachi, Permanent Secretary for Special Duties at the Federal Ministry of Finance, praised the BisonFly Project as “a benchmark for fiscal responsibility in the public sector,” noting its potential for wider application beyond government use.

Developed by the Ministry’s Efficiency Unit in partnership with ICT experts and other key stakeholders, the initiative is being overseen by a dedicated team committed to ensuring it drives meaningful improvements in cost efficiency and public sector operations.
