Former senator, activist, and prominent public commentator, Shehu Sani, has issued a health warning urging people to avoid spraying perfume on their armpits or private parts—despite not being a medical professional or affiliated with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Addressing a common practice among individuals who use perfume to mask body odor, Sani cautioned that the habit could have serious health consequences, including cancer.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Sani recounted the story of a young man named Salisu, whom he personally knew. According to him, Salisu routinely applied perfume to those sensitive areas, eventually developed cancer, and sadly passed away.
Sani’s warning has sparked discussions online about the potential dangers of misusing cosmetic products and the importance of public awareness of safe hygiene practices.

Don’t spray perfume in your armpit or private parts. If you are in the habit of doing that, learn from this. A young man called Salisu used to do so, and suddenly it triggered a strange form of cancer in those areas. The spots got rotten and his health deteriorated. He is now dead
However, Senator Sani did not indicate whether Salisu’s doctors confirmed a link between his cancer and the frequent use of perfume on sensitive areas. He also acknowledged that he had no scientific evidence to support the claim but explained that he shared the story as a cautionary tale. “Just a piece of advice,” he added.
