Three Artisans sentenced to hang for murdering colleague in Kwara

The artisan trio received death by hanging at the Kwara High Court after Justice Adebayo Yusuf pronounced their verdict on Thursday regarding the death of Saheed Lawal in Offa Offa local government area.

Auto mechanics Isiaka Jimoh and Lekan Ahmed together with Adebayo Saheed who work at Amuyo in Offa received a death sentence from the court.
Saheed Lawal died on November 5, 2020 and three artisans known as Isiaka Jimoh, Lekan Ahmed, and Adebayo Saheed faced death by hanging after they received prosecution from the state Ministry of Justice.

The prosecution through Ayoola Akande filed a four-count charge including conspiracy and culpable homicide that carried capital punishment before the Court on February 9th 2022.

The defendants faced charges for conspiracy to commit culpable homicide which carries death penalty as punishment under Penal Code Section 221 CAP. P4, Laws of Kwara State.

The defendants faced additional culpable homicide charges for their act of putting hot red pepper into the ear canal of workshop employee Hamzat Ibrahim.

Barr represented the trio during the proceedings. Bodunrin Adewole, Dr. A. S. Ishola, and Prince J. O. Ijaodola, respectively.

Justice Yusuf made his ruling on Thursday and stated the prosecution led eight witnesses to the stand but defendants testified and presented three other witnesses.

The second and third convicts Isiaka Jimoh and Lekan Ahmed told Saheed Lawal to testify about stolen Motor oil during the day of the incident.

The two convicts together with the third defendant named Adebayo Saheed (also known as Eje) carried out such severe mistreatment of Lawal that he became unconscious.

Dr. O.M.Abdulsalam confirmed to Court through his testimony at the trial that he performed medical examinations which led him to declare Saheed dead upon his arrival at State General Hospital Offa.

In his court decision Justice Yusuf established that the three defendants took responsibility for killing Saheed Lawal their co-worker who operated at the workshop in Offa.

The prosecution witnesses presented evidence that I found trustworthy which proved beyond doubt that defendants were accountable for Saheed Lawal’s death.

The three defendants received death by hanging according to his decision which would end their lives.

Justice Yusuf handed down death by hanging as the sentence to execute the defendants for their involvement in the crime. The death sentence mandates that the defendants will suffer execution through hanging until their breathing stops. The court wished God’s mercy for the defendants after Justice Yusuf declared their sentencing.
